Aquino’s girlfriend Shalani a no-show
By Thea Alberto, Yahoo! Southeast Asia
Apart from President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s who delivered his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the Batasan, the public eagerly waited for his low-key but popular girlfriend Shalani Soledad to show up.
Soledad who is now councilor of Valenzuela City was a no-show during her boyfriend’s first SONA, heightening rumors the two have broken up.
Mon Soledad, Soledad’s uncle, said the two seemed to still be together but she had work to do at the time of Aquino’s SONA.
“May session sa Valenzuela,” Soledad told Yahoo! Southeast Asia in a phone interview when asked why his niece was not at the House of Representatives.
Soledad explained that the couple had an understanding that “service” is a priority over their relationship.
“Hindi naman siya magsasalita sa SONA. Wala naman siya gagawin dun. Kapakanan ng lungsod ng Valenzuela, ‘yun dapat unahin,” Soledad said.
“Mapapanood naman niya ang SONA at mapapakinggan niya ulit mamaya,” he added.
Soledad said his niece is also not used to the limelight.
“Ayaw niya ng ganun. It is not her cup of tea,” Soledad added, noting that the councilor refuses to have bodyguards despite her stature as “First Girlfriend.”
Soledad said their family also approved of Shalani’s relationship with Aquino, whom he described as “very simple” and down to earth.

So Shalanai was not present during the president’s first sona. But is “First Girlfriend” or even just plain “Girlfriend”? Did President Noynoy had any girlfriend in all his years as an adult bachelor? One needs to be a real man to have a girlfriend and get married! Hahaha!

Those who post obnoxious and demented posts like mvijay25 should go elsewhere where their type of trash will be appreciated. This “news” item should also be placed in the celebrity pages – it’s a non-news.
Let’s not copy yahoo trivia but instead let’s focus on the more relevant issues of our country.

Oh by the way where was Kris Aquino during the Sona? Never mind James because he was kicked out weeks ago. We hope this will be a regular event. Keep Kris out of every affair of the president. Many people cannot stomack her presence with the president – imagine with all her nasty refutation!

mabuting modelo: bayan muna bago ang sarili. trabaho muna bago ang ligaya!
armancrey on July 26, 2010 at 9:21 pm
Only the President knows where she is. I think she understood something about “delicadesa”. She is too graceful, and demands respect for not being “ma-papel”. Sisters, your brother is not getting any younger kaya encourage him to get married soon!!!Malapit na siyang maging “antique” ha!
countme08in on July 26, 2010 at 9:31 pm
Shalani simply puts herself where she should be.
(I quote doncarlos143 saying on P-Noy, “One needs to be a real man to have a girlfriend and get married! Hahaha!” But I wonder is he himself a real man? because he talks a lot.
just wondering dude.)

I appreciate her reason for “no-show”. They’re both hardworking people and very dedicated to public service. I can relate with Shalani. If I’m in her shoes, I will do the same. Duty first. Why can’t people just leave the personal and lovelife of our President? They deserve some privacy. I ageee with armancrey, she is too graceful. She earns my great respect. Bravo Shalani!!!

Am not surprised if Shalani will give up Noynoy soon. Hindi nga siya masikmura nila Korina and Bernadette e.

for once i agree with pedropenduko.
also with goldenseagull – his lovelife is no one’s concern. why don’t the media blurt out their own lovelife in paper and online instead. the president is not a celebrity, he is a servant.

I think this photo was taken at Tita Cory’s wake, that’s why the funeral face. I hope this photo is not prophetic of their relationship. I think she would make a good First Lady – pretty and decent and as she showed today, she is not KSP.
olidumadag on July 27, 2010 at 3:41 am
To me it doesn’t make a difference whether she is present or not on the SONA of the president. The public are less concerned on the personal life of the present leader of the country. It could even pose as a controversy to his image as a public servant. I think the media should focus more on the issues that are pertinent as to how the president can restore the trust and confidence of the people back to the goverment. God bless us all!

Would it hurt the country if Aquino does not have a wife until the end of his term? Let us judge the President not by his personal desire to have a wife or not but by the performance he and his cabinet makes.
@countme08in and doncarlos143: a person does not become a real man simply because he gets married. You even wonder if he is a real man because he talks a lot. Look within you and say straight to yourself that you are a real men. Aquino talked with sense. He revealed the anomalies of the past. I suggest you watch the episode of XXX last night July 26 and see the Cavite-Batangas Highway with a sub-standard paving approved by the Cavite DPWH offcials and found by the DPWH Main office as grossly overpriced. If you 2 gentlemen just talk trash you become like faggots. But if you endeavor to talk sensibly you will be like real men.

jaime0105 on July 27, 2010 at 5:58 am

They should understand that they are already in the limelight and cannot hide from it, specially that they are not yet married, as we say that “a woman can only make a man complete” will definitely follow the new President. Sure, they can say that service to others will be their priority but where will this all comes to at the end of the day, would it be nice to come home with a loving beautiful wife waiting for you?…(he-he-he just asking lol!)

Everybody is waiting for her to arrive during the president’s first SONA. But I guess she has really an important appointment that she couldn’t make it. I agree with her uncle that service should be the priority as they are both in the public office.

yellowbelle2010 on July 27, 2010 at 9:26 am
According to Teddy Boy Benigno yesterday at the ANC, she is the most elegant lady he ever saw. I think, it’s ok that she was not there at the SONA. After all she was always present here in Davao during the campaign, with or without Noynoy, and as always unobtrusive. This speaks highly of her class and breeding. Would be first lady should learn from her conduct.
hilongosnon on July 27, 2010 at 9:39 am
Shalani a no-show: i think for 3 reasons maybe;
1. PNOY is a not a full-grown man (half feminine)
2. PNOY’s sisters don’t want shalani to steal from them the scene of being first lady.
3. She already knew that her presence is not required in the SONA anymore. (election2010 is history, showbiz already done)
itsumo500 on July 27, 2010 at 9:44 am
Protocol-wise she is not a member of the official family, she is not a member of both houses of representatives, not a governor or mayor, not a cabinet secretary, undersecretary or even bureau chief. she is just a councilor and there is no such thing as “first girlfriend”. SONA is a joint session of congress and she cannot be officially invited that’s why she has no business being there.
samuraigirl007 on July 27, 2010 at 9:47 am
i love this girl…she is really serious with her life and very determine to where heart is. not the so-called showbiz politicians na mga ambisyosa…puro photo-ops ang alam. let’s face it…marami talagng makapal ang mukha na nakaupo sa congresso…before u know it..itong si lani mercado e makikiawagawan umupo sa senate…
Pres Aquino will be the most “duh” guy pagka pinakawalan pa nya si Shalani…
countme08in on July 27, 2010 at 9:51 am
@edleco – you talk much too. This FTP is all about shalani’s non-attendance in P-Noy’s SONA.
my simple comment was “shalani behaved well and placed herself to whe she is supposed to be”.
Now, if I wonder about doncarlos134, its none of your business.
Good day.
hilongosnon on July 27, 2010 at 9:53 am
I think in case no. 2, they dump Shalani because if incase Noy & Shalani get married, the sisters will become a “no official business” with the president’s affairs, they’re afraid to be kicked out.
Or that maybe they fear of noynoy’s incompetence that is why they stayed as shadow of their brother.
Well that still remains a wait n’ see…..
yuanne11 on July 27, 2010 at 10:37 am
the article is simple enough, but the attributions are very very confusing.
just like this: ““Hindi naman siya magsasalita sa SONA. Wala naman siya gagawin dun. Kapakanan ng lungsod ng Valenzuela, ‘yun dapat unahin,” Soledad said.” Aquino was the one who said this right? Same is true with the rest of the sentences. Though who the statements came from were obvious, this should still be written with care.
