A Life Less Analog
By Joey Alarilla, Yahoo! Southeast Asia

On June 30, Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III will not only take his oath as the highest official in the land, but will also make history as the first Philippine president whose inauguration will be livestreamed on the Internet.

Yahoo! Southeast Asia will provide a live video stream of the Aquino inauguration, in partnership with broadcast network TV5, MediaQuest and FutureGen.

This will be made available on the Purple Thumb election site of Yahoo! Philippines, together with a live blog that will give up-to-the-minute updates and allow readers from all over the world to post their comments.

Just as in the Purple Thumb coverage of the first automated elections in the Philippines, bloggers and citizen journalists can take part in Yahoo!’s social media coverage by using the hashtag #PurpleThumb together with their election-related tweets. These #PurpleThumb Twitter updates will be automatically posted on the live blog, where they can be read by the millions of readers who visit the Yahoo! Philippines site.

Yahoo! Southeast Asia launched the Purple Thumb site with the aim of providing multimedia coverage of the Philippine elections that would focus on the voters rather than the candidates, by giving voice to the sentiments of ordinary citizens and providing them with the online tools for sharing their views.

The Purple Thumb live blog coverage not only showcases the comments of readers, but also keeps them engaged by empowering them with community tools such as Flickr for photo sharing, Answers for crowdsourcing information, and Meme for conveniently publishing and reposting their content.

Check the livestream here or bookmark this page.

Well if i the one being asked, i not really into noynoy for president to govern us, we both know of his capacity and we know that all his thoughts and speech is fed by his circle of advisers. but want can we do now that his the one being voted by the majority of people, it dosent seem for them that hes incapability and caliber is low-grade maybe today mostly the people’s commonsense is now empty brains. Thanks to EDsa REVOlution the pilipino is deceive of the truth.

I remember P Noy will be given a new ‘head to foot’ look. Because all his photos whether on tv, newspaper, or internet looks haggard, oily face and tangled hair. Like the ordinary man on the street. Maybe his handlers can look into this.

Many years in the Past,Philippines and its citizenz suffered most from economic stress and natural calamities. Sana po, sa bagong administrasyon ni Pres. NOYNOY AQUINO.. changes will be seen for the betterment ng marami not of a few. To give each filipino a way of living , a work decent enough to survive his/ her family… kahit paano will lessen the crime. SIr, Try to win the investment of other country to our country… let them give each filipino a job. Let each Filipino be proud that he/she is a filipino… at sana po makabalik sa bayan para makatulong sa kapwa tao through business oppurtunities.Congrats po sa Inyo.

actually jean, the Filipino people are really like that. They always ask what the government can do for them. That should not be the case, we should always ask what we can do to our nation. If we are less fortunate, do everything on your capacity. They are doing their share also. Many had received help naman. It is would never be possible that the government would provide us of all we wanted. Be a responsible citizen, that if internalized by each Filipino, how would development not exist.

I fully agree with this assessment. In all honesty, I am supporting Noy because he is the President and we have no other. But I have fear that indeed his presidency won’t be catalyst for real and lasting reform but a government of popular appeasement as well as an “entertaining” administration. I really hope this assessment won’t come to pass. For the sake of the suffering Filipino people.

“there were so many news about the inaguration day for Noynoy….but we never heard anything for his PROGRAM for the Filipino people….it shows like it’s an entertainment industry that he is getting into…and not as President of the Philippines…..were the Philippine government been treated as showbiz industry as well??? I hope that PNoy will be able to deliver the Filipino Dream — development ticking to the greater number of people and not just a few.

Sometimes I have no choice but to believe in him. Good luck to you!

And please Kris — don’t steal away the show from your brother.

Congratulations President Aquino and Vice President Binay! The precepts of the DeMolay is enough to live by and to lead the country by. Do what’s right and you won’t be wrong. But know what’s right and wrong.
May the president include the vice president in all national government matters and not just confine him to one department – a case of “what my right hand does, my left hand does not know”, unless there are secret “deals” which are the roots of top level corruption.
It would for the good of all for a program of reform and education to be launch by internet, television, radio and newspaper; with a national body to consolidate, priorize, investigate and take appropriate actions – where people can submit actual names, incidents, details of acts of graft and corruption, where the body can actually send persons (with integrity) to go through the process of (say) applying for a visa with DFA, etc. and experience the graft and corruption going on and victimizing the poor helpless people. From the bottom to to the top; look at “deals” with big “corporates” where theyy can monopolize utilities (water, electricity, media, communications), where they can acquire government properties and set up malls – the modern urban land grabbing. Let’s move on from getting rid of corruption to actual constructive programs for progress, eg. Renewable Energy, Water & Wastewater, Solid Waste, Food Production, Sanitation, Self Sufficiency! Think of all these, there’s nothing to celebrate – only alot of work ahead. Honest to goodness work!

Pls, dont make sex education be a part of the curriculum. It will lead the children to curiosity, all the more children will do some try outs.
all the more our country will be having big problems in early pregnancey, pre-marital sex, abortion, poverty, etc, & crimes will increase in the country.
I congrtulate all the members of the cabinet of the new president. His excellency President Aquino, i have a high regard on you. i respected you and i love you my president
What i am asking is please dont allow sex education be a part of the curriculum in the elementary and seocndary education. Thank you.

Congratulations we hope that we have the right decision in choosing a good president sana you address also your priority a small enterprenuer and what other option can your government offer so that the filipinos will not go to other country to work, more changes, more job, more opportunities and prioritize the needs of filipinos rather than the rich sector. Thanks and Goodluck we alwalys pray your administration.

Yes, my dear president, i am also looking after of the future of our young people in our country. I just hope that no sex education be included in our curriculum. I am afraid children will try to test what is behind in here. We dont want that our children will suffer all the odds that life will bring due to some mistakes of our higher ups or wrong decisions made by our national leaders. I will be much grateful if you will listen to us parents and workers in the fields. We love you our president. And we count much on you. thank you and God speed.

Once again…on my birthday….a new president and vice-president will be inaugurated…..My Birthday wish?

i hope real change could come from you and from the people you will be with. most of the time conflicts arise from the people around you. learn from the past. change should happen now! make your parents proud not because you are the President but BECAUSE of what you will do to our country. show to them that, FILIPINOS ARE STILL WORTH DYING FOR!!! WE SUPPORT YOU IN OUR PRAYERS!!!

While I may agree that Sec. Baldoz is qualified as Sec. of Labor, I strongly believe that Hon. Sec. Marianito Roque should have been retained just like Sec. Bert Romulo. Sec. Roque came from the ranks and knows the department like the palm of his hand. He would definitely be an asset in this administration.

Let us wait for this guy ’til he sit in his throne and start to do his work as President. For the meantime, let him enjoy his inauguration as it is his privilege. If you were been promoted in your office and set for an inauguration I am sure you will not be there talking about your visions and plans everyday and all the time until you have the right time to do so and that is within your speech. Everybody is just excited and feeling the freedom from being handled with a corrupt officials I guess.

  27. Mapagmatyag na Juan De La Cruz on June 29, 2010 at 8:57 pm

Your Excellency, Mr. President Noynoy Aquino, as what they said, you are not a Superman, but we always hope and pray you will lead our nation into the right path.

  28. the_apprentice on June 29, 2010 at 9:02 pm

But I agree with you on the part that we Filipinos should help ourselves. We all have responsibilities for this nation to succeed. For once, let’s do our part. Change starts with us. Think about it. Would you rather wait and rant or would you stand up and start the change?
